What’s up Pond Fam, and those looking to join? It’s been a while since I threw together a blog post of any kind. I sure hope you have all been happy and healthy and are ready for some strong doses of new (and old; will explain later) material from The Deep Shallow Band. As you know, “Copy and Paste” came out in 2023 with two singles following in 2024. We spent most of 2025 on live gigs and chemistry, as well as writing some new material.
I wrote in the last blog about my old band Satchelfoot. We wrote a lot of material in Satchelfoot, as well as recorded an album called “Individual Plan.” We never signed any of the record deals offered to us, mainly because I wanted to keep the rights to my material. I thought the money they were offering for my songs was simply not enough to lose full creative control. We wrote some good shit, or at least we thought so, that I felt could still be relevant today. I didn’t want to simply do a cover of my own songs, but thought I was in the creative space to add some ideas, make them better, and add The Deep Shallow vibe. The amazing team I have been so lucky to have surrounded myself with was all on board, ready to get to work and see what we could accomplish. We didn’t disappoint each other; that’s for sure. They came out amazing, and so much better than before.
We also had three brand-new songs we had written and couldn’t wait to get in the studio and craft them. From there, I went out on a limb and decided to buy the rights to record and monetize a ’90s smash hit. The issue was that it was going to be a TALL-ASS task to do something even remotely as good as the original version. Again, IMHO, this band stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park.
These will all be released as singles every six weeks for the rest of the year; however, five of them will ultimately find their home in an EP called “Where I Belong.”
We have one more surprise we recorded to make a total of eight songs. My very good friend Kevin Russell wrote a song that I really liked, so we were his backing band on the single. It will be Kevin Russell Ft. (featuring for those that don’t know music lingo) The Deep Shallow Band.
In the meantime, we all just have to wait until that first release drops March 27th.
